Living people

Living people’s birth dates, locations and family relationships are not published without their consent, and deceased people’s are published with care for their living relatives Ninglekhu/ku heritage documentation project 2026 C. Where a person is named on a public page, it is because a published, citable source names them — and the name still comes down on request.

Photographs of living people need permission from the people in them, not merely a licence permitting reuse. That is true even of images that are legally CC-licensed elsewhere. A stricter standard applies to children: no identifiable photograph of a child is published without a parent or guardian’s explicit consent.

The family-line register

The register is served at two levels. The public tier shows the aggregate picture only — counts, thums, villages, decades. The members’ tier shows detailed records and requires an account. A contributor chooses, for each record, whether it may be published in full, in aggregate only, or kept family-only; that choice is stored with the record and can be changed at any time.

Ritual knowledge

Mundhum recitation, and the knowledge held by phedangma, samba, yeba and yuma, may be restricted to initiated practitioners. Before publishing any such passage we ask explicitly whether it may be published, and “no” is accepted without argument. A restricted archive tier exists from the start for exactly this, and only the archivist can publish into or out of it.

What the site itself collects

• Accounts. A member account stores the name and email address you give it, and what you have contributed. It is used to serve the members’ tier and to reach you about your own material — nothing else.
• Contributions. A submission stores what you send, the consent option you chose, and your name and email so that the material can be credited and you can be contacted about it. Contributions are readable by editors only until they are published.
• Messages. The contact form stores your message and the address you gave, so that we can reply.

We do not sell or share any of this, and we do not use it to profile anyone. To see what is held about you, to correct it, or to have it deleted, write to [email protected].
